Quotes

Voices.

Lines about the cosmos, peace and contact. Each links to its source; where that source is secondary, the line says so. Sayings that circulate under famous names without a source are left out. Each quotation is followed by a short note on the passage of the letter it supports. A quotation here is not an endorsement, and on the UFO question it is not evidence.

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.
Albert Einstein, What I Believe, Forum and Century, 1930. Source
The letter starts from the same place: not proof, but a wonder that will not go away.

The universe is full of magical things patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper.
Eden Phillpotts, A Shadow Passes, 1918, p. 19. Source
This is why the letter waits instead of insisting.

The Cosmos is all that is or ever was or ever will be.
Carl Sagan, Cosmos, 1980, p. 4. Source
The letter is addressed to every mind within that "all", not only to minds that resemble ours.

We're made of star-stuff. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself.
Carl Sagan, Cosmos, episode 1, 1980, as in a subtitle transcript. Source
If every mind is made of the same matter, the letter's offer of exchange between equals is not generosity. It is kinship.

We are the representatives of the cosmos; we are an example of what hydrogen atoms can do, given 15 billion years of cosmic evolution.
Carl Sagan, interview by Jonathan Cott, Rolling Stone, 1980. Source
Hydrogen is also the signal in the letter: 1420 MHz, the line every radio astronomer knows.

All teems with symbol; the wise man is the man who in any one thing can read another.
Plotinus, Enneads II.3.7, translated by Stephen MacKenna, revised by B. S. Page. Source
The letter reads the sky this way: as signs that mean something only if someone tries to read them.

The universe is transformation: life is opinion.
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations IV.3, translated by George Long. Source
The letter's chapter on simulation asks the same from the other side: whose opinion is the world?

All things move and nothing remains still.
Plato, Cratylus 402a, Socrates paraphrasing Heraclitus, translated by Harold N. Fowler. Source
Contact would change both sides. That is why the letter's permission can be withdrawn at any time.

Hatred is never appeased by hatred ... By non-hatred alone is hatred appeased.
The Buddha, Dhammapada 5, translated by Acharya Buddharakkhita. Source
The rule behind "Pax ego sum": the letter answers no fear with fear.

Peace begins with a smile.
Mother Teresa, essay for Architects of Peace (Michael Collopy), as published by the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics, Santa Clara University. Source
The letter asks for no more than this as a first step: a greeting.

Imagine that our universe is like one slice of bread in a much grander cosmic loaf, with the other slices of bread being other universes.
Brian Greene, Fresh Air, NPR, 24 January 2011. Source
The letter's address, "any non-human intelligence", is meant to leave room even for that.

Cosmic terror appears as an ingredient of the earliest folklore of all races, and is crystallised in the most archaic ballads, chronicles, and sacred writings.
H. P. Lovecraft, Supernatural Horror in Literature, 1927. Source
The letter is written against this oldest reflex. It meets the unknown with an invitation.

We've been getting UFO reports worldwide for 50 years that we've been ignoring for 50 years. Let's not ignore them for the next 50 years.
Peter A. Sturrock, quoted in The Christian Science Monitor, 29 June 1998. Source
The letter does not claim to know what these reports are. It only declines to ignore the question.

I think it is a legitimate scientific question to ask where these UFO sightings are from.
Michio Kaku, on Twitter, 2021, as reported by Interesting Engineering. He added that this does not mean they are necessarily from another planet. Source
That is the attitude of the letter: open to the question, not certain of the answer.

The phenomenon reported is something real and not visionary or fictitious.
Nathan F. Twining, letter "AMC Opinion Concerning Flying Discs", 23 September 1947, reprinted in the Condon Report (1968), Appendix R. Source
An official document about reports, not about their origin. The letter claims nothing beyond it.

I happen to have been privileged enough to be in on the fact that we've been visited on this planet and the UFO phenomena is real.
Edgar Mitchell, on Kerrang! Radio, July 2008, as reported by Government Executive. NASA replied that it did not share his opinion. Source
A voice, not evidence. The letter does not depend on it.

These are my own words, posted on X from the account @cosmicpeacecncl, which I run. They are not quotations, and I do not speak for humanity. I first posted the phrase "Pax ego sum" on X on 30 March 2024.

Dear Galactic Federation, Earth is in need of your wisdom. Please guide us towards peace, unity, and a higher consciousness. With love and hope, The People of Earth.

Dear Extraterrestrial Friends, We're a peculiar species on Earth. We love. We hate. We create. We destroy. What's life like where you are?

A selection of my own lines from 2024 to 2026, posted on X. Not quotations, not claims of fact, only things I said and still mean.

The fact that you're here, alive, in this moment, is a cosmic miracle.
Never forget how sacred this experience is.

People are the same everywhere.
We all want to be seen, heard and valued.
Connect on that level and culture fades away.
Posted 2024-09-26 on X, @cosmicpeacecncl

We're more alike than different.
Smile. Listen. Learn some phrases. Share a meal.
Watch barriers dissolve before your eyes.

Borders are imaginary lines
drawn in the sand.
Peace is the bridge
we build to each other.
Our humanity unites us,
if we allow it to.
Posted 2024-10-24 on X, @cosmicpeacecncl

Peace in the universe.
Peace within me.
Peace in the here and now.

Sending messages to space is a powerful tool.
But with power comes responsibility.
We're sending our story to the cosmos. Let's make it a good one.
Posted 2024-10-31 on X, @cosmicpeacecncl

If we send messages to space:
Are we ready for the response?
Do we have the wisdom to understand?
Can we handle the truth about ourselves?
Posted 2024-11-13 on X, @cosmicpeacecncl

Peace is impossible with rage and fear.
They blind us to the beauty of this moment.
Surrender to what is.
Peace becomes your natural state.
Posted 2024-11-14 on X, @cosmicpeacecncl

Peace is always present.
Sometimes it's hidden amidst the chaos.
Other times it's in the calm corners of your mind.
But it's always there, waiting for you to notice.

Don't be afraid of the dark.
That's where stars are born.
Posted 2025-01-16 on X, @cosmicpeacecncl

Aliens aren't what we should fear.
We should fear our inability to understand them.
They've likely mastered the art of balance on a level we can't fathom.
Posted 2025-01-27 on X, @cosmicpeacecncl

In a world built on contrasts, peace is the gentle bridge between differences.
Posted 2025-03-08 on X, @cosmicpeacecncl

Sit, breathe and for eight minutes let peace go first.
